New air service to link Aberdeen with Liverpool
UK regional airline, Eastern Airways, is introducing a new route as part of its expanding Aberdeen operation with the announcement of its first scheduled flights to Liverpool John Lennon Airport.
The independent carrier, which operates more flights from Aberdeen than any other airline and currently flies to 12 destinations, will further strengthen its busy North East Scotland hub, with the launch of three flights each weekday to Liverpool from 6 July 2009.
As part of today’s announcement, the airline will also be increasing the number of flights from Aberdeen to Southampton from two to five services each weekday starting from 6 July 2009.
The Liverpool service offers business travellers the flexibility and choice of day return flights, saving them valuable time. The airline is consistently rated one of the UK’s best on-time performers*, and flights are not only expected to appeal to Grampian business travellers heading to Merseyside, but also Cheshire, Lancashire and North Wales.
Liverpool has many cultural attractions and was named European Capital of Culture 2008. The city will be forever linked with music’s world famous Fab Four - The Beatles. It’s also the gateway to many industries in the region, including oil, gas, petrochemical, pharmaceutical and finance.
Weekday services will depart from Aberdeen at 6.40am, 2.30pm and 6.20pm, arriving in Liverpool at 7.50am, 3.50pm and 7.40pm. Flights take off from Liverpool at 10.40am, 4.30pm and 7.20pm, landing in Aberdeen at 11.50am, 5.50pm and 8.40pm.
Graeme Ross, Eastern Airways’ Scotland director said: “This announcement reinforces our commitment to further developing services from Aberdeen as we continue to focus on regions where there are strong industry links. By expanding our hub at Aberdeen, we can also offer greater connectivity as north-bound passengers from Liverpool can transfer onto our Stavanger, Stornoway and Wick services. Aberdeen is in the enviable position of offering the best UK domestic network and range of services to Norway.
“We’re also enhancing our services from Aberdeen to Southampton with five flights a day, providing greater flexibility and even more choice for business and leisure travellers.”
Aberdeen Airport’s managing director, Kevin Brown, said "This is more great news for passengers from around the North-East. Without doubt Liverpool will be an attractive destination in its own right, but I am also pleased to see the introduction of routes onwards to Southampton. This gives added connectivity to passengers and opens up a whole range of new options.
"We were delighted to work with Eastern Airways to secure this route, which I have absolutely no doubt will be a tremendous success"
Rita Stephen, development manager for Aberdeen City and Shire Economic Future (ACSEF), said: “Air links to a range of UK destinations are vital to the continual growth of Aberdeen City and Shire’s economy and Eastern Airways’ new route to Liverpool is particularly welcome in the current climate. It will undoubtedly help attract new business and leisure tourism opportunities and further enhances the area’s competitiveness and attractiveness.”
Bob Collier, Chief Executive of Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce said: “We’re delighted that Eastern Airways will be running direct flights to Liverpool. The continuing expansion of routes available from Aberdeen to key business hubs throughout the UK is vital in ensuring that our North-east economy continues to diversify and grow.
“This gives us direct access to the North West and provides new opportunities for attracting inbound tourism to this area and for improving our connections with a range of business sectors.”
The latest new route is the second one announced by Eastern Airways from Aberdeen in 2009, following the Oslo link.
Passengers flying with Eastern Airways can check-in just 30 minutes before departure and can use a dedicated fast track security channel at Aberdeen and Liverpool to avoid any queues. All Eastern Airways have access to its business lounge in Aberdeen.
Eastern Airways has provided scheduled services from Aberdeen for over 11 years and flies from the north east Scotland airport to Bristol, Durham Tees Valley, East Midlands, Humberside, Leeds Bradford, Newcastle, Norwich, Oslo, Southampton, Stavanger, Stornoway and Wick.
