New Aberdeen to London City route launched
British Airways is to launch a new route between Aberdeen and London City Airport with three return flights a day.
BA CityFlyer, the wholly-owned subsidiary of British Airways, will operate the service from September using aircraft from its fleet of new Embraer 170 and 190 jets.
British Airways operates seven return flights a day between Aberdeen and Heathrow.
Luke Hayhoe, BA CityFlyer commercial manager, said: “Our direct flights from Edinburgh and Glasgow to London City are extremely popular with Scottish customers who want to want fly straight to the heart of the City, for both business or leisure.
“We are delighted to be adding flights from Aberdeen linking Europe’s oil capital with the UK’s financial and business hub.
“It reflects the strength of the economy in Aberdeen and the north east of Scotland.
“Aberdeen has been an important part of the British Airways network for many years and continues to be so.
“This new route complements the existing Aberdeen to Heathrow service, giving our customers greater choice and additional frequency when travelling between these two great wealth generating cities.”
Aberdeen Airport Commercial Director Don Jacobs said: “We warmly welcome BA CityFlyer to Aberdeen Airport, and are pleased to have secured this direct route to the financial heart of the UK. This is set to be a long and positive relationship, and marks their entry into the Aberdeen market.
“I am confident that the business community in particular will welcome the announcement, which has come as a result of much negotiation.
“Importantly it also provides a fresh option for all of our passengers who are accessing London, whether on business or leisure.
“We are pleased to see our network widen further and we look forward to welcoming BA CityFlyer into the Aberdeen team in September.”
All inclusive one way fares between Aberdeen and London City start from £80 and include generous free 23kg luggage allowance, free online check-in and seat selection 24 hours before departure and complimentary food and drink on board.
