Thomson and First Choice summer 2014 announcement
Thomson and First Choice are pleased to announce that in Summer 2014 they will be more than doubling capacity at Aberdeen International airport through the introduction of new routes to Corfu and Dalaman, as well as the addition of further weekly flights for existing Majorca routes including a new Sunday departure, and Ibiza flights now being extended to run for the entire summer season.
The move to introduce these routes is part of the UK’s largest tour operator’s strategy to ensure customers across the UK can fly from their local airport and stay at the best hotels in some of the most exciting destinations.
Not only will customers from Aberdeen be able to fly to some fantastic destinations, but they will also have the opportunity to choose varying durations - not just the standard seven and 14 night stays. The introduction of the flight to Corfu means Thomson and First Choice will be the first tour operator to offer a flight to Greece from the airport, as well as the only tour operator operating this route in summer 2014.
Thomson Cruises will also be exclusively operating its cruise and cruise & stay programmes from the airport to Majorca and Dalaman where customers can sail on Thomson Dream and Thomson Celebration. As Platinum ships, both have had a multi-million pound makeover to offer a more modern and contemporary cruising experience in line with the Thomson Platinum beach brand. With the addition of the new route to Corfu, Scottish Thomson Cruises customers can now experience the Thomson Majesty sailing from Corfu Town.
Local customers will now have access to some of Thomson and First Choice’s most popular flagship hotels. These include the brand new for summer 2014 Holiday Village Seaview Ibiza and Holiday Village Majorca, which opened this May - both delivering everything a family could want in one place – great entertainment, food, kids clubs and lots of activities to keep the whole family occupied. Furthermore, Scottish couples now have the opportunity to experience two of Thomson’s Couples adult-only resorts; the 5T Atlantica Grand Mediterraneo Resort and Spa in Corfu and the Hotel Marmaris Imperial in Dalaman.
Paul Cooper, Airport Negotiations Manager for Thomson and First Choice, said of the move:
“Adding additional capacity from Aberdeen and the introduction of a Greek route for the first time demonstrates our commitment to Aberdeen International Airport and the local area, and following the success of similar routes across a number of regional airports, we know that the demand is there.
“Expanding access to our portfolio of destinations and hotels is a key part of our overall strategy and we hope that this move will enhance the holiday experience for our customers.”
Nick Barton is the Managing Director of Aberdeen International Airport. He welcomed the extra capacity, saying: “This is great news for the airport and for local holiday-makers who wish to make the most of opportunities available on their doorstep. More seats, travel flexibility and a new destination shows that Thomson and First Choice understand the demand in this market and we look forward to the start of their new programme.”
