July passenger numbers on the rise
Growth close to double digits has been recorded at Aberdeen International Airport as passenger numbers for the month of July are released.
Overall, there was an increase of 9.2% in the number of people using the airport last month when compared to the same period in 2013 (366, 562 passengers). There were increases reported across the board – helicopter passengers were up 5.1%, domestic (fixed wing) passengers were up 8.4% and international grew by 12.9%.
MD Carol Benzie said: "Not only have we recorded growth for the past month but this growth has touched each sector of our operation which demonstrates that we have a healthy, growing business. This is incredibly encouraging and shows yet again the buoyancy of the region. We have recently seen increased local passengers going on their summer holidays, and increased inbound tourists looking to experience our beautiful region, combining this with growth in business traffic and helicopters provides a real boost to the airport and to the traffic numbers.
“I am grateful to the teams whose hard work has ensured that this increase can be matched by great customer service and a sharp focus on safety and security. There are a number of operational challenges that inevitably come with growth and we are confident that our terminal transformation project will address many of those in the long term. In the short term we are also taking steps to address them and we are constantly thinking of new ways to meet customer expectations.”
