Passenger numbers August 2013
11 September 2013
The latest passenger figures are just in, and Aberdeen International Airport recorded another month of growth, with positive passenger numbers for August.
Over the month the total Aberdeen passenger number grew by 3.5% to 312,200. Both the domestic and international fixed-wing sectors grew in total by 6.2%. The helicopter sector saw a reduction of 11.5% on the previous year.
Carol Benzie, who is the airport commercial director, said of the results; “As one of the worlds’ busiest heliports, the sad events of the 23rd August impacted on the whole airport community and our thoughts go out to the families involved. We are working closely with all of the on-site helicopter operators to understand the challenges that they are going to be facing in coming weeks and months.
The beginning of September saw the city enjoy a very successful Offshore Europe, and the airport operation coped well with the influx of visitors to the region. Whilst the total numbers are still to be released, initial estimates suggest it may be another record breaker. We processed 7,387 departing passengers through security on the Friday alone, and the total passengers for the week could top 80,000 which would make it the busiest week in airport history. We hope that each and every passenger left with positive impressions and we look forward to welcoming them back in future.”
