Balance Actively Achieved
BAA Scotland produced an exhaustive response to the Government's consultation around the future of air transport in Scotland and welcomed the long-term policy framework, which was published in the form of a new White Paper.

This 30-year airports policy predicts that passenger numbers at Aberdeen Airport will rise to 5 million with a new runway possibly required at Aberdeen.

We are pleased that this was a central outcome of the White Paper and our planning teams are already working with the Scottish Executive and local authorities to ensure that land is protected for the future.

Our priority now is that we strike a sensible balance between the promotion of economic prosperity, providing high-quality facilities and services to our customers and, importantly, meeting the needs and demands of our neighbours and airport communities.

There are many social and economic benefits associated with airports and the aviation industry. We are committed to realising those, but only with ongoing support and trust of the people who live and do business around our airports.

Through continuous engagement and community involvement, we hope that we achieve the right balance and long-term sustainability, developing the airport in the best interest of Scotland as a whole.

Highlights of this years progress:

  • Distinct improvements in the amount of recycling that has been carried out at the airport
  • An 90% pass rate for airport sustainability targets
  • Continued good progress made in the joint surface water impact study being made with Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA)
  • 5.7% of passengers using public transport
