Aberdeen Airport latest investment opens for business

01 September 2009

After only 14 weeks construction time, the brand new Aberdeen Airport car park has opened to the public.

The first cars arrived into the new multi-storey construction, which cost around £5 million, yesterday (Monday 31st August).

An additional 500 short stay spaces have been created over two floors in the new facility, spaces which have already been identified as some of the most affordable airport parking in the country.

Managing Director Kevin Brown explained why the process has been completed in record time. “A lot of planning went on behind the scenes in advance of the work starting to make sure we could get this completed as soon as possible. There was also a huge team working on the project seven days a week to keep it to schedule.”

The car park will bring huge benefits, including better availability of spaces during peak times, and a reduction in the need for passengers to ‘kiss and fly’, which should, in turn, reduce congestion on nearby roads. When passengers can park more easily, the need to be dropped off and picked up reduces, resulting in less traffic.

Making sure the new facility was open in time for Offshore Europe was a top priority for the on-site teams, with the week of OE09 expected to be one of the busiest of the year so far for the airport.

As well as state-of-the-art lighting technology, the new car park also includes disabled parking, taxi pick-up, with dedicated parking for bicycles and motorbikes being installed and ‘Priority Parking’ areas coming soon.
