Passport control
Search Heathrow
Heathrow is the UK’s only hub airport and an important economic asset. But today Heathrow is full and vulnerable to foreign competition.
Passport control
For all passengers not making a connecting flight your first stop is passport control, which will be clearly signposted on your arrival. There are two separate queuing areas – one is for European Union (EU) and British nationals, the other for all other nationalities.
Once at the passport booth an immigration officer will ask to see you passport. You will also need any supporting documentation necessary for your visit. Also, please remember that your passport must not expire during your visit to the UK.
Large queues can develop during busy times but please be patient, as our stringent checks help ensure security for visitors and UK residents alike.
Assisted Border Control (ABC) system
BAA and the United Kingdom Border Agency (UKBA) are working in partnership to trial an An Automation Assisted Border Control (ABC) system, which will be taking place at Stansted Airport shortly. The trial will test how facial recognition, ePassport and gate technology can assist in managing passengers arriving in the UK.
The ABC trial (similar to one currently running in Manchester Airport) will run for six months and will be open to certain passengers to use for clearing UK Border Control.
