Filming permits

Heathrow Airport is the world’s busiest international airport. With around 65 million passengers travelling through the airport each year, Heathrow faces unique logistical and security challenges. This means that although we like to be as accommodating as possible, it can sometimes be difficult to facilitate non-essential filming and photography requests.

All filming and photography within Heathrow Airport requires a permit. Generally, a request must be made at least two working days before the required date. Security will remove anyone filming and photographing without this permission.

Commercial filming and photography requests will be charged a service fee unless they are related to a current news issue or involve a BAA business partner. The fee schedule takes into account the number of people involved in the shoot and the time required on BAA property. Permission can only be granted if the applicant can demonstrate that they have at least £5 million in public liability insurance.

All permits issued are always location-and time-specific. Applicants wishing to film or photograph airline property or staff must first obtain airline permission. Requests to go airside require an escort and a temporary pass, and the fees levied for this area are greater than in landside locations.

Unfortunately, it is not usually possible to allow student filming and photography at Heathrow, although we will consider all requests.

BAA owns a number of other airports close to London, such as Gatwick and Stansted. When it is not possible to accommodate filming and photography requests at Heathrow, these alternative locations can be approached.
