Retail’s contribution to our environmental responsibilities

Now, more than ever, with the environment becoming one of the most important issues of our time, we must meet our obligations to minimise the environmental impact of our business, and help our business partners do the same. Retail makes an important contribution towards fulfilling these obligations.

All our retail business partners are provided with guidelines and standards to ensure management policies are implemented to maximise recycling and minimise the volume and impact of waste disposal. Guidelines and standards are also set to ensure energy efficient practices in, for example, interior and display lighting. Car sharing is also encouraged; Heathrow has the largest car sharing scheme in the UK.

The Colnbrook Logistics Centre near Heathrow, provides a centralised distribution facility for our retailers and catering companies, significantly decreasing the total number of vehicle delivery journeys around the airport.
