An old favourite making a come-back
Great news for passengers today, with confirmation that one of Aberdeen Airport's previously most popular destinations is making a come-back!
Within the last few days Barrhead Travel have confirmed that they are going to bring in a weekly route from the North-East to Malaga, starting in May 2011 - the beginning of next year's summer season. The firm have also said that if pre-bookings are a success they will seriously consider upping their rotations and capacity.
The good news doesn't stop there, they have also confirmed they are bringing in a service to Palma, providing local passengers with even more options when it comes to summer sun next year.
Jan Emery is the airport's Route Development Manager, and has been working closely with Barrhead for months in a bid to tie down the routes. She said "I am delighted that we are now in a place to confirm the return of Malaga, and another option for getting from Aberdeen to Palma. Both have been the result of months of work behind the scenes but I am confident that with the right support this route will prove to be just as popular as it was before.
"It is also great for us to be involved with Barrhead at this milestone in the company's history, when they make the leap from being a holiday retailer to being a retailer and operator in their own right. This means that they have the flexibility on the route which could see extra capacity come on in future if the market supports it.
"This proves that there is a lot going on every day on route development at Aberdeen, and passengers can be reassured by that."
Sharon Munro, Chief Executive of Barrhead Travel, said, “We're thrilled that our negotiations with BAA over the past months have resulted in our being able to provide flights to Malaga and Palma, direct from Aberdeen, next year. These will be available to buy as very competitively-priced flights on their own, or as great value Barrhead Travel package holidays. We felt that holidaymakers in the North East deserved a wider range of holiday options, and with these new routes, Barrhead Travel is giving them just that.”
Both routes are being officially launched a week today (Monday 26 July), when they will go live at www.barrheadtravel.co.uk. This is to coincide with major in-store promotions, not least at their store at Union Square in Aberdeen. From 26 July passengers can book in store, online or by calling 0871 226 2673.

Notes to the Editor:
The airport has also just launched a BAA first, a text number for passengers to send their feedback. Send your messages to 80800 and start with the word 'airport' (texts to this number are totally free and details will not be passed to any third parties).
