Loganair Launches New Route to Faroe Islands from Aberdeen
Loganair, Scotland’s Airline, has announced a twice-weekly air-link between Aberdeen Airport and Vágar in the Faroe Islands – the first regular link between the two regions in a number of years.
Unveiled as part of the airline’s summer 2017 schedule, services will operate on Fridays and Sunday beginning on 26 May. Initially running seasonally until September 2017, the airline is monitoring uptake in the hope of rolling out a year round schedule.
Fares from Aberdeen to the Faroe Islands will start from £84.99 one-way including all taxes and charges plus a complimentary checked baggage allowance.
The flights will originate in Sumburgh, in Shetland, offering a convenient through-plane service from Shetland to Vágar with a journey time of less than four hours. There will also be convenient connections from Kirkwall in the Orkney Islands via Aberdeen to the new Faroe Islands schedule.
Vágar is one of the 18 islands in the archipelago of the Faroe Islands and the most westerly. Approximately 178 square kilometres in size, it is home to the islands’ international airport and so is often the first destination for visitors travelling to the islands. The Faroe Islands themselves are packed with unique and authentic adventures, especially for travellers interested in outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing, angling and boat trips.
Jonathan Hinkles, Loganair’s managing director said: “This new air-link to the Faroe Isles is the first from Aberdeen for many years. With this in mind, we’re anticipating it to be very popular amongst both leisure travellers and the region’s business community.”
“We’re pleased to further expand our route offering from Aberdeen Airport and provide another destination for our customers. Additionally, we hope to see this service benefit Aberdeen’s economy as a whole, with incoming visitors from the Faroes keen to sample the city and all it has to offer.”
Hinkles continued: “Our summer schedule is a statement of intent as we announce our transition from the Flybe franchise arrangements to become an independent operator from 1 September 2017. As Scotland’s Airline, Loganair is strengthening its network and adding more seats and more flights than ever before. Our new link to the Faroe Islands is just one of many exciting developments we’re announcing today.”
Services to the Faroe Islands will be on sale from 5 December 2016 and are subject to government approval.
