New route to Rhodes announced as first Malta flights take-off
This week will see the first flights to Malta, with Ryanair, take off from Aberdeen International Airport. This route launch comes as TUI announce they will launch of a brand new route to Rhodes in Greece from the airport in 2019.
The airport’s new Malta route now connects the North East region to European Capital of Culture, Valletta, and the three superb Maltese islands which all offer sun, sea and so much more. This is the first new destination to launch in 2018, with TUI’s route to Reus due to follow in May, and comes just one year after Ryanair returned to Aberdeen with the popular sunshine destinations: Alicante, Malaga and Faro.
The first flights to the Mediterranean archipelago take to the skies in the same week that TUI announced they will be launching a brand new route to Rhodes in Greece. The package holiday provider will launch the new route for their 2019 summer schedule further adding to the diverse selection of holiday destinations available from the regional airport. TUI also announced they will be adding an additional flight to Palma, Majorca, from May 2019 taking the total weekly flights up to four.
Carol Benzie, Managing Director of Aberdeen International Airport said: ‘Ryanair’s new route to Malta, which launched this week, is a truly exciting addition to our growing network of summer leisure destinations. We are absolutely delighted to be able to launch this fantastic new route in the same week that TUI have announced a brand new route to Rhodes for 2019. People in our region tell us constantly that they are keen to see new leisure destinations from their local airport, and Rhodes has never been served out of Aberdeen before. It is fantastic news that TUI will also be increasing their rotations to Palma, Majorca, as this is a hugely popular holiday choice for Aberdeen passengers.’
Richard Sofer, Commercial Director at TUI UK said: ‘Summer 2019 is the most ambitious programme we have ever introduced. We are focusing firmly on expanding access to our amazing range of holidays through an extended regional flying programming concentrated on the core destinations holidaymakers want to travel to, while offering the flexibility of holiday duration they want. We’ve increased our capacity and customer choice by adding an extra flight to Palma and introducing a new Rhodes flight for summer 2019 from Aberdeen airport.”
The introduction of these new routes further increases the already diverse choice of summer leisure destinations available to Aberdeen passengers. Find our more at www.aberdeenairport.com/destinations
