ABZ Propeller Fund donates more than £5,500 to worthy projects

ABZ Propeller Fund donates more than £5,500 to worthy projects

More than £5,500 has been granted to different organisations in the second round of funding through the ABZ Propeller Fund.

Previously known as the Aberdeen International Airport Community Fund, the ABZ Propeller Fund is open to groups, charities, and organisations with links to education, sustainability, and economic regeneration.

In April more than £8,000 was granted in the first round of funding with 18 organisations sharing in £25,000 in 2022.

Successful applicants following the second meeting of the ABZ Propeller fund in 2023 include

  • Friends of Stonehaven Open Air Swimming Pool for the replacement of front doors
  • Aberdeen FC Community Trust and it’s Education and Positive Destinations initative.
  • Miscarriage Services for it’s Memory Box Project.
  • Turriff Silver Band for music and equipment for its Youth/ All Abilities initiative.
  • Garioch Community Kitchen for kitchen equipment.

Bruce Watson, chairman of the ABZ Propeller Fund at Aberdeen International Airport, said: “We have been delighted to hear from some fantastic projects at our latest meeting and our group looks forward to seeing them come to fruitution.

“We encourage community groups, charities and organisations who need help with funding to look at our guidelines online to see if we can help get their project off the ground.”

Jackie Dunbar, MSP for Aberdeen Donside and Member of the ABZ Propeller Fund said: "Our goal is always to make the ABZ Propeller Fund grants go as far as they can by awarding the ones which will have the biggest positive impact on communities.

“ABZ Propeller Fund is a brilliant opportunity for any charities, community groups and organisations to apply for the next round, as the funds can make a real difference.

“I thoroughly enjoy being part of the ABZ Propeller Fund who determine which fantastic projects receive funding, although this can be a real challenge deciding given the volume of good applications."

Members of the ABZ Propeller Fund include airport staff, as well as representatives from the local authorities and government.

The search continues for applicants for 2023 with the committee meeting four times a year.
