12 organisations share in £15,000 from Aberdeen International Airport’s Propeller Fund

12 organisations share in £15,000 from Aberdeen International Airport’s Propeller Fund

The ABZ Propeller Fund by Aberdeen International Airport has supported 12 projects this year with half of £30,000 funding still available.

This year, the amount of funding was increased to coincide with the North East’s largest transport hub celebrating its 90th year. Established with the aim of propelling support regionally, ABZ Propeller Fund has been instrumental in providing vital support to numerous worthy causes over the years.

Funding has been given to several organisations including the Fit Like Joggers Club Couch to 5K programme, Torry Dance Group for new equipment for children and to help improve the efficiency of the popular Hogmanay tradition of the Stonehaven Fireballs.

By increasing the funding to £30,000, Aberdeen International Airport reaffirms its commitment to empowering local initiatives and driving positive change within the community.

Since relaunching in 2022, £65,000 has been awarded to 47 groups in grants with links to education, sustainability, and economic regeneration.

Bruce Watson, Chairman of the ABZ Propeller Fund, said: “As we are now halfway through the year we are delighted our ABZ Propeller Fund and its increased funding is helping community groups.

“The fund has grown in popularity and this year alone we have received in excess of 45 applications from a diverse range of community groups and local charities.

“I would like to thank our committee members who give up their time voluntarily to ensure the fund can continue to make a lasting and positive change for the communities we serve.”

Jackie Dunbar, Aberdeen Donside MSP and member of the ABZ Propeller Fund, said: “Aberdeen International Airport’s ABZ Propeller Fund has been a force for good for a number of years and it’s been great to see this increase to £30,000 this year for the airport’s 90th anniversary.

“So far this year, 12 very-well-deserving organisations have received funding, and that will benefit to communities in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.

“With half of the fund, and half of the year, still remaining, there is still an opportunity for community groups and charities to apply. If your organisation works in the North East then I would encourage you to look into whether you can apply for up to £5,000.”

Members of the ABZ Propeller Fund committee include airport staff, as well as representatives from the local authorities, third sector and Scottish Parliament.

Any organisation looking to apply is asked to carefully read the ABZ Propeller Fund guidelines.
