Midnight Runway Run at Aberdeen International Airport with CHC Helicopter raises £65,000 for local charities

Midnight Runway Run at Aberdeen International Airport with CHC Helicopter raises £65,000 for local charities

Aberdeen International Airport, in partnership with CHC Helicopter, hosted its sixth annual Midnight Runway Run on Saturday night (23rd August, 2025), raising funds for two local charities.

Almost 400 participants took part in the 4km run along the airport’s illuminated runway raising more than £65,000 in the process.

This year’s event supported AberNecessities and Fersands and Fountain, two organisations providing vital services to families and communities across the region.

Robert Paterson, Head of Operations at Aberdeen International Airport, said: “We’re pleased to see another strong turnout for the Runway Run, which has become a much-anticipated event in our calendar.

“It’s a great way to bring people together while supporting causes that make a real difference locally.”

The 2025 event was supported by: Avi Alliance, Ace Aviation, NATs, Alpha Fencing, GJ Services, Cirrus Workspaces, ABM, APCOA, Stagecoach (official transport partner), Northsound (official media partner), Signs Express (official award sponsor), Abermedia, and Yellow Balloon Films.

CHC Helicopter Captain Ryan Broadhurst, who founded the event, added: “It’s always rewarding to see the community come together for this unique experience.

“The atmosphere on the night was fantastic, and we’re grateful to everyone who took part or helped behind the scenes.”

Mark Lovie, Project Coordinator at Fersands and Fountain SCIO, said: “On behalf of everyone at Fersands and Fountain, I’d like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all the runners, supporters, sponsors, and organisers of the Midnight Runway Run. Being part of such a prestigious and uplifting event has been a fantastic experience for our team. The financial contribution will make a real difference to hundreds of families in our community, and we’re truly grateful for the opportunity to be recognised and supported in this way.”

Danielle Flecher-Horn, Founder of AberNecessities, said: “As Aberdeen International Airport’s charity partner we were incredibly grateful to be part of this wonderfully unique event for a second year.  Our team, including Bertie the Bear, really enjoyed welcoming runners on the night, cheering them on and raising further awareness of the significant impact their fundraising efforts have on local, underprivileged children.

“We are overwhelmed by the amount of money raised which will enable us to provide many local disadvantaged families essential items that no child should go without.  We can’t thank the Airport enough for their dedication to supporting us and once again organising such a ‘high flying’ success, and our heartfelt thanks go to all runners for taking on a challenge that makes a positive difference to so many in our local communities.”
