Aberdeen International Airport Staff Choose SAMH As New Charity Partner

Aberdeen International Airport is delighted to announce that SAMH (Scottish Action for Mental Health) has been selected as its official charity partner.

The North-East’s largest transport hub has chosen SAMH for the next two years following a staff vote.

SAMH is Scotland’s national mental health charity, renowned for its innovative support programs across the north-east region.

The charity has been supporting Aberdeen's mental health for many years, including though its work to prevent suicide and the provision of mental health link workers to the city's GPs.

SAMH’s latest offering is The Nook, a ground-breaking, walk-in mental health and wellbeing hub based in Marischal Square. Due to open this summer, The Nook will offer non-clinical, stigma-free support to adults, young people, and families seven days a week, without the need for appointments, referrals, or waiting lists.

Aberdeen will be home to the second Nook, following the first opening its doors in Glasgow last year, as part of a Scotland-wide network that will see three further Nooks launched by 2028.

Robert Paterson, Operations Director at Aberdeen International Airport, said: “We are thrilled to partner with SAMH. Their pioneering work in The Nook, combined with vital suicide prevention and outreach services, aligns perfectly with our commitment to supporting wellbeing at our airport. We look forward to working together to raise awareness, engage passengers and staff, and make a meaningful impact across the north-east.”

Hazel McIlwraith, Director of Fundraising and Major Appeal at SAMH, said: “Thank you to the staff at Aberdeen International Airport for selecting us as charity partner - we can’t wait to work together to raise funds and awareness for Scotland’s mental health.

“This partnership comes as we are just months away from launching The Nook in Aberdeen, which will provide free, accessible mental health support seven days a week and add to SAMH’s existing services in the North East. Together, we can help create a Scotland where anyone can ask once and get help fast with their mental health.”

More than £260,000 has been raised through previous charity partnerships with events like the unique midnight Runway Run and the first ever Jet Set Spin.

Passengers can directly contribute to fundraising efforts for SAMH through the collection globes in the airport which accept any currency.
